Kyle Gass is keeping busy.
While Tenacious D remains on indefinite hold following the fallout from Gass’s controversial joke about the attempted assassination of Donald Trump during their 2024 tour, the guitarist isn’t sitting around waiting for Jack Black to return his calls. Instead, he’s getting back on stage and capturing it on tape.
Live in Palmdale drops January 23rd via Aspecialthingrecords, featuring 12 tracks recorded at Transplants Brewing in the Californian desert city. Available on digital and baby blue vinyl. The Kyle Gass Band have been around since 2011, with two studio albums under its belt: the self-titled 2013 debut and 2016’s Thundering Herd. The lineup features Tenacious D guitarist John Konesky alongside Mike Bray, Jason Keene, and Tim Spier.
As his website puts it: “What does KG do when he’s not playing with the Greatest Band in the World? He assembles an otherworldly super-team of badass dudes to back him up in his own project, the Kyle Gass Band.”
As for Tenacious D, the ice is thawing. Their cover of REO Speedwagon’s ‘Keep On Lovin’ You’ appeared on the LA Wildfire benefit album Good Music to Lift Los Angeles last year, and The Complete Masterworks Vol. 3 dropped in October. Jack Black has publicly stated they “will be back” and that “everybody takes a break sometimes,” and eagle-eyed fans noticed he liked Gass’s birthday post to him on Instagram. But no official reunion or tour has been announced.
