Beyond Landfall There’s Wide Open Sky

Out now, ‘No Tomorrow’, a new single and video from Brazilian melodic rockers Landfall, taken from their upcoming new album, Wide Open Sky, set for release on 17th January 2025, via Frontiers Music Srl.

Guitarist Marcelo Gelbcke said that the song “has a very strong fingerprint of what Landfall is all about.  Melodies, choirs, rich harmonies and rhythmic changes”.

“We wanted to navigate to a more AOR vibe on this one,” he continued. “It was also inspired by the passing of the great actor Carl Weathers, paying homage to his most remarkable character: Apollo Creed. There’s a line on Rocky III that Apollo says to an unmotivated Rocky: ‘There is no tomorrow!’ We thought it would be nice to write a song about this theme – Doing everything we can do today and not leaving anything for tomorrow. A song about motivation, goals and determination.”

“’No Tomorrow’ is one of my favourite songs on the album. I believe it was a great choice for a single ‘cause at the same time it is powerful it is also a very catchy song”, added vocalist Gui Oliver.

Hailing from Curitiba in Brazil, Landfall was originally formed by drummer Felipe Souzza and guitarist Marcelo Gelbcke, childhood friends who have been playing together since they were about 15 years old. Some years later, bassist Thiago Forbeci joined up with them and added new musical input and influences, at which point the band decided to go in a new direction.

During this period, they released three independent albums under the name Wild Child, performing several concerts around Brazil, including opening for acts such as Glenn Hughes and Mike Vescera; until 2017 when the former Auras singer Gui Oliver, joined the band and Landfall began writing songs that would eventually become their first album released by Frontiers Records, The Turning Point.

As a songwriter, Oliver had previously written songs for several artists from the label, including Jimi Jamison, Bobby Kimball, Fergie Frederiksen, and Issa. The music of the band, now featuring bassist Luis Rocha, is best described as falling somewhere between classic melodic rock,  à la Journey, and slightly heavier influences, such as classic era Dokken, White Lion, and Extreme.

The following tracks on their new Wide Open Sky album: ‘Tree Of Life’, ‘SOS’, ‘When The Curtain Falls’, ‘Running In Circles’, ‘No Tomorrow’, ‘A Letter To You’, ‘Coming Home’, ‘Intoxicated’, ‘Hourglass’, ‘Higher Than The Moon’ and ‘Wide Open Sky’.
