High energy, blues-infused southern rock ‘n’ roll outfit Parker Barrow has been making a big noise in the short time we Brits have heard about the Nashville-based band, and it doesn’t look like that’s going to change anytime soon.
Indeed, they’ll be back here in July, performing five intimate club shows and taking part at this year’s Steelhouse Festival.
While summer itself is still a way off, the band, founded by husband-and-wife duo Dylan Turner and Megan Kane, has just released ‘Glass Eyes Cryin’, taken from last year’s Hold The Mash EP, as their latest single.
“‘Glass Eyes Cryin’ was the first song we wrote and recorded for Hold The Mash,” said Dylan Turner. “We felt it was the perfect song to kickstart a musical shift to what the band has become since our previous record.
“It’s laid-back, groovy, and features a powerful vocal that tells the story of a sass-filled response to situations of emotional manipulation. With the use of many textures and gospel elements, the song takes you on the emotional journey that comes with the realisation that actions truly speak louder than words.”

It took me a while to work out where I’d heard the opening bars to Parker Barrow‘s new ‘Glass Eyes Cryin’ single before. It was David Lee Roth‘s ‘Just Like Paradise’, and the fact that it’s then followed by some heavenly gospel cooing suggests it could be an in-joke homage. We’re barely seconds in before Megan Kane comes on sounding like a young Stevie Nicks in full rock bitch mode, and we mean that in a good way, folks.
The singer pours out attitude like she’s giving a sermon on the mount, putting some faker in their place over a Smokin’-era Humble Pie funk-rooted rocker, with the band throwing in some Zeppelin hutzpah during the soloing section.
Kane and Turner met in 2019 and have apparently been riding the highs and lows of rock ‘n’ roll road life ever since. Their band name is taken from notorious bank robbers Bonnie and Clyde’s surnames. Guitarist and musical director Alex Bender came on board in 2023, and from thereon is where we’ve come to hear about them on these shores.
Parker Barrow play Frome on 17th July, Stowmarket on the 18th, Glasgow on the 21st, Sheffield the 22nd, Leek the 23rd, and Steelhouse Festival on 24th July. Tickets for the July club shows are available via Planet Rock, The Gig Cartel and Parker Barrow‘s website.
