Penny Rich is a noise punk rock three-piece from Cardiff, in Wales, whose new EP, On And On is set to drop this September. Ahead of the EP are upcoming live dates, and a new single releasee with the protest number ‘Fundamentals’.
‘Fundamentals‘ explores the frustration and embarrassing nature of finding recourse in mainstream solutions to physical and mental health issues, solutions that have previously been prescribed – unsolicited or otherwise – by others unaffected by these issues, i.e. who have not had to suffer or agonise to “get there”. It denotes the irrational feeling of injustice in the face of smugness by others at how this journey has unfolded, whether intentional or otherwise.
Since forming in 2018, Penny Rich has become known for a raw, invigorating sound that blends the evocative vibes of early Sub-Pop with a contemporary twist. Known for their skin-prickling, abrasive music that stirs a blistering surge of excitement, the band has released several singles and EPs, capturing audiences across Wales and the South-West. Their live performances, shared with bands like James And The Cold Gun, Death Cult Electric, among others, showcase their unrefined chaos and articulate a tension-filled rage that’s always on the brink of collapse. If their music doesn’t unsettle you, then perhaps you’re missing something essential. Penny Rich‘s sound is intentionally incendiary, conveying deep emotions with a raw, explosive energy that’s both gripping and dizzyingly exhilarating.
On And On is a four-track EP noise de force that showcases the band’s evolution and experimentation within the rock genre, pushing and bending boundaries. This new EP collection maintains the integrity that’s defined Penny Rich’s sound while exploring ways to share their music with a wider audience. Recorded in late 2022 with long-time producer, collaborator, and friend of the band, Andrew Sanders, at Kings Road Studio in Cardiff, and later mastered by Kurtis Bagley of Luna Crown Audio (Holding Absence); On And On captures the band’s live intensity and dense dynamic soundscapes, further cementing their reputation as one of the most fearless acts in Cardiff’s rock scene.
Tracks featured on the EP are ‘Fundamentals’, ‘On And On’, ‘Violent Glitch’ and ‘Broken Mirror’. It will be released on 27th September and be available on all major digital platforms including Bandcamp.
To coincide with the EP release, Penny Rich – featuring Anthony Birdseye (Guitar, vocals), Chris Hampson (Bass, vocals) and Tobias O’Reilly (Drums) – will embark on a series of UK live dates.
