Re:Forming Daedric

Daedric, the alternative rock and metal project led by vocalist and artist Kristyn Hope alongside producer Geoff Rockwell, have been busy. Following the release of their sophomore album As the Light Left, Daedric return with Re:Formed, a three-track acoustic EP with an accompanying behind-the-scenes documentary, out via FiXT.

Featuring stripped-down reinterpretations of fan favourites ‘Iridescent Wings’, ‘Sand Tiger’ and ‘Dreamweaver’, the EP reveals a more intimate side of the band while preserving the emotional weight and intensity that define Daedric‘s sound. The documentary goes behind the scenes, detailing the creation of the songs and the thought process behind Re:Formed.

“The approach to the Re:Formed EP was more than just rehashing songs from As the Light Left as acoustic versions of the same thing,” said Daedric. “It was about creating something new out of our emotions and experience of the album. These acoustic songs have become more like a rebirth in such a cathartic sense, and the reworking and restructuring of each track allowed us to explore that concept in our own time.”

‘Iridescent Wings (Acoustic)’ was the first single taken from Re:Formed, described as taking on ‘a bare, confessional form.’ The band went further on how it developed: “When the possibility of doing acoustic versions came up, this one was a natural fit and was the first idea we had. That doesn’t mean it was easy. Getting the energy and emotion right took some real effort, but we ended up with something we think is a great addition to the Daedric canon.”

Originally conceived as a raw, high-impact homage to the golden era of nu-metal, ‘Sand Tiger’ has also now been released as a single.

“Taking a nu-metal inspired song and turning it into a completely different sound was an interesting take on our acoustic treatment for the EP.  ‘Sand Tiger‘ is originally quite an aggressive song for vocals, so it was never going to be a soft, singer-songwriter type track, but we did find a nice balance between placing it into an acoustic setting and honoring the energy of its original form,” said Daedric.
