“Seventh Wonder is finally back with a new voice on the microphone,” announced Swedish progressive metal band Seventh Wonder’s bass player Andreas Blomqvist. “Those who have known us through the years know that we work slowly and, in order to avoid delaying the album, we opted for a cover song to introduce Mattias to the world.
“We really took our time in finding a new singer and, while the rest of the band remains unchanged and therefore also much of the songwriting, we are excited to go to new places where we haven’t ventured before as Mattias will put his mark on the band’s sound. Super excited for 2026!”
Replacing Tommy Karevik is Mattias Olofsson of Swedish band Grand as the new vocalist with Seventh Wonder, while that cover song is ‘Eternal Flame‘ that first appeared on Europe guitarist Jon Norum’s Total Control album, co-written and performed by Marcel Jacob who briefly played bass with Europe and founded Talisman.
“John Norum and Marcel Jacob, who wrote and play on the original track from 1987, have been very important in shaping the origins of Seventh Wonder and we thought a little modified version of this ’80s rocker would be a fun way to say ‘Hello, World!’,” Blomqvist continued. “We hope you like it and, while you give this track a few spins, we’ll head back to the studio to wrap up the new album.”
Blomqvist formed Seventh Wonder back in 2000, alongside guitarist Johan Liefvendahl and drummer Johnny Sandin, following a previous band imploding, recruiting keyboard player Andreas ‘Kyrt’ Söderin later in the year.
It took until June 2005 for their debut album Become to see the light of day on the Lion Music label, only for then singer Andi Kravljaca (Elsesphere, Silent Call) to leave following its recording and be replaced by Tommy Karevik (Vindictiv, Kamelot), whereafter the albums Waiting In The Wings (2006), Mercy Falls (2008) and The Great Escape (2010) followed, only for original drummer Johnny Sandin to also leave.
Former Lion’s Share drummer Stefan Norgren took up occupancy behind the kit for 2016’s double live album Welcome To Atlanta, Tiara (2018) and The Testament (2022), only for Karevik to leave after that album’s tour. Now, four years later with Olofsson at the mic, Seventh Wonder is completing the band’s seventh studio album for Frontiers Music SRL, with ‘Eternal Flame‘ offering an indication of the musical direction they’re heading.
