Surviving the 80s rock scene, with the same line-up 40 years down the road, Helsinki rock act The 69 Eyes can squarely say I Survive to your face. Aptly, that’s the title of a new EP they’ve got coming out on 5th June through BLKIIBLK.
Ahead of the EP’s release, the band’s rendition of the Thin Lizzy smash ‘Cold Sweat‘ is out now as a single.
“A friend of mine sent me our demo of ‘Cold Sweat’ from over ten years ago and asked why we never released it. After hearing the demo, Gabi Hakanen, head of Vallila Music House, said this is exactly The 69 Eyes at their best. Rock for the radio!” said vocalist Jyrki 69. “Every respectable rock band also covers Thin Lizzy at some point, so now that is done as well.”
The video for the song was filmed in January during the band’s recent European tour and features a cameo by Portuguese goth legend Fernando Ribeiro from Moonspell.
One foot in glam, the other in goth, The 69 Eyes have gold and platinum records to their name and the kind of mainstream status in their native Finland that would beggar belief for most other bands. They’re currently touring Europe.
The forthcoming I Survive EP was produced by Erno Laitinen and mixed by Barry Pointer (Ozzy Osbourne, Mötley Crüe). It features the title track and first single with Steve Stevens making a guest appearance, new single ‘Cold Sweat‘, ‘In The Misery‘, and ‘Devil’s Rose‘ featuring Ed Mundell.
