The Amity Affliction Drop New Song ‘House of Cards’

The Amity Affliction are back with their ninth studio album, House of Cards, arriving 24th April via Pure Noise Records. This marks a significant chapter for the Australian metalcore heavyweights, being their first full-length featuring clean vocalist Jonny Reeves as a permanent member following his addition in 2025.

The title track, ‘House of Cards‘, is out now alongside a music video directed by Daniel Daly, and it’s a brutal, unflinching exploration of family trauma. Vocalist Joel Birch wrote the song for himself and his siblings, confronting the painful relationship they shared with their mother, who passed in 2024. “She was very self-involved, aggressive and abusive in our early years,” Birch explains candidly. After her death, the three siblings grew closer, recognising their shared experiences and supporting each other through it.

Hearing the words “hate is easy, love yourself” are so powerful and very much needed in this day and age. The Amity Affliction have 10x’ed their sound here, they’re sounding fresh. This is music that is so appreciated, especially when it tackles difficult subjects with this level of authenticity.

The duality between Birch’s visceral delivery and Reeves’ clean vocals adds depth to these already weighty themes, proving the lineup evolution was exactly what the band needed. Across two decades, they’ve amassed five ARIA number one albums and over a billion streams, and House of Cards feels like it could be one of their most important releases yet.

Australian fans can catch The Amity Affliction on their 21-date regional tour with In Hearts Wake and Redhook, running through March. They’ll then head to North America in April, perfectly timed with the album drop. If ‘House of Cards‘ is any indication of what’s to come, this album will be essential listening for anyone who values honest, emotionally resonant heavy music.
