Americana rock trio, The Whybirds, will release their new single The Cure from there long awaited forthcoming album A Little Blood on the August 26th.
It has been three years since The Whybirds have released any new material and this will be the first album without former bassist Taff Thatcher. The split sets the tone for the character led concept for the album, which the The Whybirds are famous for.
Drummer, Luke Tuchscherer comments;
“The Cure is a song that Dave and I wrote, about a guy who can’t help but fuck up. He’s in a bad way at the beginning of a song – he’s unemployed, he’s drinking – then he meets someone who starts to turn him round. Unfortunately, he can’t quite give up his old ways. He loses the girl and lives in regret…The song started as a kind of Crazy Horse-esque jam and evolved to where it had this kind of Led Zep-meets-Black Keys groove, with a big chorus. It’s unlike anything we’ve done before…The character in the song is like a lot of them on the record. He’s made a terrible decision and has to live with it. That and similar themes are throughout A Little Blood: What happened to the people who didn’t fulfill the dreams we laid out on our last album? What happened to the folks from [previous album] Cold Blue Sky who tried to escape but didn’t make it? How do you deal with a life that isn’t the one you asked for?”
