A man on a mission, and seemingly working round the clock, British slide guitarist and singer songwriter, Troy Redfern is gearing up for a new studio album release in 2024, and it’s going by the handle Invocation. While up in the headlights right now, is his new single ‘Getaway’.
While there’s a few tracks in recent years that have intimated Refdern’s has a penchant for T. Rex here he adds – if not early Quo then some Foghat – to the mix with a hard rocking boogie singalong built for rock radio play with its tale of knowing when it’s time to move on from a situation, of one form or another, has turned sour.
The single should give you a taste of what to expect on Invocation, with ‘Getaway’ available on all streaming platforms by clicking here. The single is also accompanied by an official music video available that you can check out right here at RAMzine – It was filmed during Poland’s Rawa Blues Festival, where Redfern performed to a crowd of 7,000, having also put in festival appearances at Steelhouse and Maid in Stone, among other this summer gone.
Produced by Dave Marks who also plays bass on the single, mixed by Jo Webb, with Paul Stewart on drums, guitarist/singer Redfern said: “On ‘Getaway’ and the forthcoming album, I wanted to write and record songs that were bigger and ballsier than what has come before.
“The new songs embrace more of the rockier elements of my writing and playing. I’ve also given myself the creative freedom to explore and feel out other styles or aspects of my writing that have not been heard on any of my other albums.”
Explaining why, he continued, “As an artist I feel it’s important to keep pushing and striving to refine your art, while staying true to your vision. It is important to know who you are as an artist, and on ‘Getaway’ and the upcoming album, I think I have finally perfected my own contemporary signature sound.
“’Getaway’ is about cutting yourself some slack,” added Redfern. “It’s about transforming your life, even if there are difficult decisions to be made. As they say, from the mud grows the lotus.”
The new single dovetails with Redfern’s supporting Philip Sayce on his November UK tour, that will followed by a mainstage performance atPlanet Rockstock in Wales during early December. Tickets for the Sayce/Redfern November UK tour are availablefrom here.
Invocation itself is said to feature Redfern’s “strongest material to date, and will be launched with an extensive Kickstarter Campaign on Monday 30th October. Coloured vinyl, hand-drawn artworks and an array of exclusive bundles are just a few of the things on offer to its backers, and further information can be found here.
