Fancy an Australian rock band that class themselves as “Theatrical Glam Rockers”? Well on their fourth studio album, Ready Aim Rock, Crosson certainly deliver on both fronts and a quick peek at their video release (Live At The Orpheum), and the video that accompanies the single ‘United’ they have always delivered the theatre. No frowning out there… this isn’t a pisstake band like some, this is seriously theatrical.
Their name is from lead singer and guitarist Jason Crosson, ably backed by a quality band and two female dancers with guest vocals from Aimee Hannan (a bit of a surprise, as I thought of her more as a country act, but she does a sterling job.) Listening (and looking) at the single I am reminded of the melodic strains of Impelliterri and the like – all the weight, the melody and nearly as much flashy guitar. Elsewhere, we get the even heavier Priestly and horror-styled video of ‘Fallen From Grace’, the heavy balladic ‘One Way Love Affair’, the outlandish ‘Take On The World’ as the chant of “we’re here” moves from gothic to heavy rock, and then there’s the rock opera ready, lighter waving ‘Love Is Endless’.
In summary, take the best of 80s hair metal add a dash of Alice, update it to the here and now, be prepared to join in on every song and have a smile all of the while and you’ll be close to the music and, I think, the ethos of the fire-haired mastermind of the band.
Ready Aim Rock is released on 9th September.
