DFL (Dead Fucking Last) are a band I’ve heard many times and am never disappointed by. Originally formed in 1991, the four-piece hardcore punk band from Los Angeles, California features Tom “Crazy Tom” Davis on lead vocals, Monty “Monte” Messex on guitar and vocals, Patrick Sullivan on bass, and “Snare” Jordan Jacques on drums.
Fuck It reached us in the UK and Europe on 24th April 2026 via SBÄM Records, bringing nine hardcore tracks with it. It then landed in the United States on 29th May 2026.
It was produced and mixed by Fletcher Dragge of Pennywise, who also added lead guitar work on ‘WWFD’ and ‘Fuck It’, and contributed guest vocals on ‘Fuck It’, ‘Tour Talk’, and ‘Watch Your Step’.
The band recorded drums, guitar, bass, and backing vocals with Eddie Casillas of Voodoo Glow Skulls, while Mario Caldato Jr. of Beastie Boys oversaw the lead vocal sessions and provided rough mixes.
DFL celebrated the release of Fuck It by hitting the road in May alongside Pennywise, Circle Jerks, and H2O, and made an appearance at Camp Punksylvania in June.
The band released their track ‘Second Chances’ on 4th April 2026. The music video was directed, edited, and shot by Brendan McKnight, with additional direction from DFL themselves.
“This is about the second chances that life gives you, and being grateful for them,” says guitarist Monty Messex. “Not everyone gets one. It has the line, ‘all the good ones are dead and gone,’ and I think about Taz, a friend of Crazy Tom and me, who passed away after struggling with drugs and alcohol, like a lot of us did. There is also the line, ‘Somehow you and me held on,’ which is literally about Tom and me.”
This album did not disappoint. It certainly is hardcore at its finest! Their tracks may be short but they hold a lot of chaotic and powerful hardcore energy. Their attitude and unapologetic humour is what I love the most about the band. I really enjoyed the uniqueness and hearing Fletcher Dragge’s vocals and guitar work on some of the tracks. It was quite hard to choose a few songs to talk about, I loved them all a lot, but I have managed to narrow it down to four tracks that are the top ones for me!
Firstly, ‘Fuck It’ is the opening track on the album and what a way to open! The words “fuck it” are repeated throughout the whole track, which is quite catchy and just the perfect way to start off the album. Fletcher Dragge’s vocals and guitar work add that unique taste and help bring the song together.
‘Second Chances’ stands out as one of the band’s most unexpectedly reflective tracks to date, showing a lot of gratitude and survival. The opening guitar riff rumbles, then all of a sudden you’re hit with that intensity of chaos and relentless hardcore.
‘Bang’ has such loud and fast hard-hitting drum beats throughout. It’s a track I would love to learn on drums eventually. Its catchy shouty lyrics “Bang my head on the wall”, lots of fast and speedy energy, and intense hardcore vibes make it a track you can create a mosh pit to!
Lastly, ‘Heavy Is The Head’ is slightly slower than other tracks, however it still holds that intensity and chaotic vibe throughout. It just shows that you don’t always need to be extremely fast when creating a hardcore track, as long as you still show how intense and loud you can be, which this track proves!
This whole album is definitely a new favourite! I have always loved this band, so I knew I wouldn’t be disappointed when listening to their latest album. It’s unpredictable, loud, fast, intense, and powerful, everything you would want from a hardcore punk band! Go check out their latest album for yourself and enjoy every second of it.
