Kira Mac trail Chaos Is Calling

A chance meeting at Manchester University drew together a cast of characters from across the UK who share a love of “old school rock, blues, and everything else in between.” They formed a bond, formed a band named after the nom de guerre of frontwoman Kira Mac (with guitarists Joe Worrall and Alex Novakovic, bassist Bret Barnes and drummer Cal Casey; although he’s been replaced by Max Rhead since recording). They have been making waves with three excellent singles to promote the full-length album to come in November.

The three tracks are a good guide as was to expect on the forthcoming album Chaos Is Calling. ‘Dead Man Walking’ is a great mix of Sabbathian riffing with a heavy blues base and topped by the powerful, dramatic and melodic vocals of Kira – plus the added benefits of a tasty guitar solo and a sing-a-long chorus. ‘Hit Me Again’ is out and out rock with plenty of roll. A punkish touch to a heavy, melodic rock backing for Kira again to shine – there will be plenty of people listing famous frontwomen comparisons, but she has an identity of her own as she pours the passion into every word and phrase. ‘One Way Ticket’ has a great riff, introduced by a bass with a lovely tone and sending me on a fruitless memory hunting exercise… whatever, this is another melodic and heavy rock song that has immediacy but is even more rewarding on further listens to fully appreciate the layers of musicianship behind the excellent vocals.

Eleven minutes of high-quality rock promising much for the album, I will certainly be first in the queue on the basis of these three tracks.

The album will be released on 18th November and the band are touring across the UK in November.

I'm fortunate to have retired early & I can now take full advantage of the 40+ years I have spent collecting, listening, watching & playing (badly) & have enjoyed researching how blues in particular has shaped the music we know & love today. Now if only I could get my Strat & Musicman to sound in reality how they do in my head!
