You could say this is the golden era of unsigned rock bands. Many bands don’t need a label nowadays to gain a loyal following: FVK, Ashestoangels, and many more have proven this in the past few years. Formed in 2014, As Sirens Fall look to follow this trend. Being their first headline tour – this could break them in to the dizzy heights of most popular bands in 2016. They could be the Pokemon GO of rock.
Essentially in a basement of a craft ale pub, a modest sized crowd gathers for the Ashestoangels approved, pop-punk inspired Yorkshire rockers – As Sirens Fall. Armed with a light-box used as an extension to the stage, front man Mikey Lord moves like a rock n roll Micheal Jackson. ASF are noticeably energetic, even in a smaller venue. Starting with the aptly titled ‘Where Are You?’ that feeling of discovering a great new band dawns on each an every member of the crowd who are seeing As Sirens Fall for the first time.
Following with epic tracks like ‘Last Goodbyes’ confirm these guys are destined for bigger things. It’s hard to believe this is their first tour, and that this isn’t a bigger venue. Their fusion of pop-punk, metal and alt rock is something that has been explored by bands like A Day To Remember, but ASF seem to make it their own style.
‘Smoke’ wraps up this epic set which at eight tracks, doesn’t feel very long but considering they haven’t even been a band for two years – is pretty impressive. Their EP ‘The Hospital Party’ plays like a beginners guide to the next big thing. It’s almost like a poison chalice to say that but As Sirens Fall could seriously pull it off. In all, it’s a shame not many got to see this show. In time, audiences will grow and appreciation for unsigned bands like ASF will be more commonplace. Until then it’s worth checking out a band you haven’t listened to before – you never know what you might end up with.
