Review: Bloodsoaked – Religious Apocalypse

BLOODSOAKED was formed in 2006 by Peter Hasselbrack who recorded the “Brutally Butchered” CD that was limited to 100 copies. “Brutally Butchered” was well received in the underground Death Metal scene and caught the attention of Comatose Music who released the CD in early 2007 to a worldwide audience and helped BLOODSOAKED get shows with Suffocation, Vital Remains, Incantation, Dying Foetus, Skinless and two successful (Slaughtering The South I & II) tours and an ever growing fan base.

Devouring

With passions ignited this is one breath taking opener – kick beats run wild to a rampaging madness although the vocals could do with being a bit more crisp as they are lost in the explosion, which is a real shame as this is a superb track. I love the metal onslaught that runs with this as it really gets the blood racing!

Abomination

A slower paced track however it still doesn’t move from the fact that the vocal melee is hidden behind powerful riffs and thunderous beats – even turned up to near on full capacity so production not great! However the track itself is still blood thirsty and virulent!

Religious Apocalypse

This one is a lot better, it’s like a switch that has been turned and the full furious vocal assault can now rip its way through the aural with ease which makes a big difference. This is fast and still yet has that predatory stance attached to it so a challenging track that is extremely enjoyable.

Shake Me

Wow this is unexpected it starts off with more of a heavy rock feel, however the vocals say different and done in super death metal style, catchy and addictive with all the rock traits – this is so appealing and different! Loving this! Definitely needs a few more replays!! Death Metal meets AC/DC kind of style!Bloodsoaked

You’re in Love

So glad this wasn’t a ballad!!! Again done in a rock style sweeping with tenacious rhythms and thunderous drum beats it’s really something good to get your teeth into! A real classic twist to Bloodsoaked – really impressed!

Suicide (Live)

With a throaty leering voice the track begins and very little background noise to hinder the flow of ravenous beats that usually get misplaced with a live performance. This is another stupendous track and a dramatic enticement.

No God (Live)

Emotively striking it lashes out into a flurry of obnoxious kick beats and towering riffs. The vocals are gruff and imposing and rife for a good head banging frenzy!!!

Infestation (Live)

Portraying an evil side that explores aggression and an equal amount of madness. Strongly opposing with towering sinews it is one breeding ground for a hate filled emotive endeavour. And finally some cheering at the end which means this is most definitely live!

Grinding your Guts (Live)

Not as I expected as it is more slow-paced but still holds an antagonistic rhythm that gnaws feverishly on the senses and heavy as…

A very surprising album indeed! Not just all out death metal, although done in the death metal style, which is sheer genius! Some of the titles make the listener surmise that they are going to be somewhat wimpiest so when the riffs and bludgeoning beats hit you are well and truly in for a nice surprise! That’s what I adore the most, when a band throws in surprises and uses them to literally shock the listener – that’s the sign of a professional band. I was also surprised at the production at the beginning of the album not being as crisp as it should be, however the tracks are forcibly executed and in places catchy but also compelling.

Death metal with a combination of rock is just a superb unpredictable twist. The rhythmic sway and mighty drum battering’s are immense and of course the vocal swamp of throaty lures are sheer bliss and well worthy of several listens. “Shake me” is one helluva track and I can’t stop listening to this as it holds so much potent addictive assault! You have to check this out to reap its rewards!!!
