You know that you have been thrashed beyond smithereens when you listen to this, as ‘Silhouettes’ blasts out from the speakers and pulverise with a feisty voice. ‘Woe to the Vanquished’ shows no mercy as it creative agitation molests with fury and like any thrash track is angry and full of hate. It is smothered in fevered riffs and vengeful blasting beats.
‘Remain Violent’ has you reaching for the speakers to fully immerse oneself in the toxic barbaric hooks of Chase and Adam and the wonderful vocal tones of John Kevill, this one’s ripe for head banging! ‘Shellfire’ has no grace whatsoever and literally bounces from speakers to ears in one fell swoop. It’s compelling and engaging without a doubt – even I am finding it hard to move on from this chugging train wreck! Hard to believe I never got into thrash when it first hit the scene in the 80’sI just didn’t get it… now I can’t get enough!
‘Descending Blade’ another chugger, did you think otherwise? But the build-up and fret work displayed on this track is astounding. The jaw breaking beats are delicious and the frenzy of riffs and deep bass hunger for eager ears so make sure you listen to this band as they are well established in their art.
‘Spectral Asylum’ is a rather creepy track with incoherent whispers starting the track off and then these bleak rhythms intervene. The lyrics really paint a blurry picture of unending madness with plenty of intense solemn grimness.
‘Divinity of Flesh’ spirals to ultimate intensity as its infectious energy grows in strength and ready to overwhelm with a deep presence that will be cemented in your sub-conscience forever. ‘When the Guns Fell Silent’ is the final track on one of the finest thrash album I have heard in while. The samples are edgy, the music tempting and the vocals engaging it all comes together in a neat little bundle that comes kicking and screaming into existence for your utter listening pleasure and full on entertainment.
I must have been stupid to have ignored the thrash genre for as long as I did, but so glad I woke up and gave myself that kick up the backside I needed in order to sample some highly complex rhythms and tortuous vocals that I would have gone on blindly missing or ignoring, as albums like this don’t come along very often.
Warbringer Woe to the Vanquished is out via Napalm records on 31st March 2017.
