Five Basic Self-Care Tips For Anyone Travelling Long Distance To A Gig

There’s nothing like going on the road to see a band you love, is there? Whether it’s a special one-off show or a full-blown festival, heading out to watch your favourite artists is always going to be an amazing experience. You’ll be out there in the crowd with a great group of like-minded folks, watching a transcendent live experience that nothing else could possibly hope to capture. And it’s probably fair to say, doing a little bit of hard living in the process.

Travelling is the kind of thing that can leave you feeling exhausted and drained, even before you factor in the late nights and everything that comes with them if you’re going to a major gig. This is especially true if you’re following your favourite band through more than one city. You’ll need to make sure that you’re taking a few sensible steps to take care of yourself both in body and in mind so that you can rest assured that you’ll be able to enjoy your time to the maximum.

Pack The Essentials

Whether you’re going for an overnight trip or a much longer journey, you can’t afford to forget the essentials. We’re talking about making sure that you’ve got more than one change of clothes (because no outfit ever really gets out of a great gig completely unscathed). You need to take your driver’s license with you if you’re behind the wheel. Don’t forget to take your phone charger with you and think about buying a power pack as well. You don’t want to end up separated from your buddies when you’re trying to find the venue and realizing that your Maps app has totally drained your phone. And don’t forget your bathroom essentials either. There’s nothing like cleaning your teeth and having a long hot shower the night after a raucous gig! And if you’re travelling overseas, do not forget your passport.

Take Some Downtime Entertainment

There’s always going to be a bit of downtime when you’re on the road. Those hours when you’re on public transport, and you can feel the excitement and energy starting to fade. Sitting in your hotel room the night before the gig and thinking you should probably get some sleep but feeling too wired to drift off just yet. Or, if you’re really going a long distance for your favourite band, waiting in the airport for your gate to be announced. You should make sure that you’ve got some options for whiling away those slow hours. Get plenty of shows lined up for your Netflix queue, pack that book that you’ve been meaning to read for months, and why not think about playing a game of online poker? PlayLive casino has a wide range of different online casino games, and they offer a fair and secure environment so you can play safely on the road.

Keep Stretching Your Legs And Taking Breaks

This point is particularly important if you’re driving to the concerts in question. You’ll obviously want to make good time, especially if you need to get to the location in time to find the venue (and indeed your hotel). But it’s not safe to keep driving hour after hour without a break. If you feel like your legs are getting stiff, stop at the next gas station and give yourself a rest. Try jogging around the parking lot to get your circulation moving again. You might also find that there’s a point when you really need some time to yourself. This can be particularly common at festivals, where you’re surrounded by people all the time. If you feel yourself getting overwhelmed, then find a way to step away for a moment or two and ground yourself.

Don’t Overload On Caffeine And Sugar

There are always going to be times that you’re going to start flagging while you’re travelling, even if you are taking regular rest breaks. It’s tempting to reach for the energy drinks and the sugary snacks when you can feel your energy starting to wane. But while there is a time and a place for those, you don’t want to end up in a position where you are relying on them. If you overdo it on those high-energy snacks and drinks, then you are going to crash, and it might be at exactly the point when you want to start enjoying yourself. What’s more, it might leave you struggling to sleep when you really need to get some rest.

Know Where You’re Going

Finally, a practical point for anyone who’s travelling a long way to see a band play: check your route before you go. There have been a lot of stories about travel disruption, so don’t get caught out by a strike that you didn’t know about, for example. These are the kind of things that can make you wake up in the night, so check beforehand and write your travel itinerary down!

  1. I travel a lot by car. And even if I go to another city for a few days, I also rent a car. For example, I flew to Barcelona for the weekend with my family and rented a van on rental24h.com at the airport. So the trip took place in comfortable conditions for us
