Avatar announce Royal Albert Hall anniversary show

Heavy metal visionaries Avatar have announced a monumental one-night-only performance at London’s Royal Albert Hall on 30th March 2027, celebrating the tenth anniversary of their landmark concept album Feathers & Flesh.

Billed as ’10 Years of Feathers & Flesh’, the show will see the album performed in its entirety, augmented by orchestral arrangements, dancers, a live choir and the theatrical visual storytelling that has become the band’s signature.

“Feathers & Flesh changed the entire trajectory of how we work,” explains vocalist Johannes Eckerström. “Once you’ve started to think of the big picture in your work, you can’t put that genie back in the bottle. We’ve done all kinds of albums since then, whether they’re comedy concept albums or satanic sock hops, and we view them as paintings. They are cohesive pieces of work with a point.”

The performance follows the acclaim of latest album Don’t Go In The Forest, a summer supporting Metallica across Europe on the M72 World Tour, and a run of headline shows worldwide. Now the Swedes take over one of the planet’s most iconic stages.

Drummer and founding member John Alfredsson recalls the album’s creation with relish. “I end up on a rollercoaster ride, emotions run through every bone of my body,” he says. “Half my mind ends up in another time and life in Dresden with this crazy lady laughing, painting owls. The other half is in this dreamlike forest that only exists in my own mind. I ask myself, did we really create this?”

A theatrical band and a theatrical venue feels like a perfect match, and this promises to be a genuine occasion.
