Some songs are so embedded in your memory that you forget how good they actually are. Black Stone Cherry just reminded us why ‘Don’t You (Forget About Me)’ became the definitive ’80s anthem.
The Kentucky rockers have teamed up with old friend Tyler Connolly of Theory Of A Deadman for their take on the Simple Minds classic, and honestly? It’s a proper reimagining. Gone is the synth-laden sheen. In its place, a swaggering, whisky bar vibe that sounds like it belongs in a dimly lit Southern joint.
The track features on their upcoming EP Celebrate, due 6th March via Mascot Records. Produced by the band themselves, this collection is an interesting mix. You’ve got ‘I’m Fine’ bringing that dreamy, Nirvana-tinged grunge. ‘Deep’ digs into personal heartache. And then there’s that title track, which carries a simple but powerful message: celebrate every little thing in life, even if it’s just making it through the day.
As vocalist and guitarist Chris Robertson puts it, growing up in the mid 80s meant watching The Breakfast Club more times than he can count. That soundtrack, and specifically this track, left its mark. When the chance came to “Black Stone Cherrify” the song, it was never going to be anything but yes.
Black Stone Cherry are bringing a massive “An Evening With” tour across the UK this autumn. Running through October and November 2026, you’ll get two full sets at each show. The first plays their legendary 2006 self-titled debut in full for its 20th anniversary. The second? Classics plus new material from Celebrate.
Dates include Nottingham Rock City, Manchester Academy, Dublin Academy, Edinburgh Corn Exchange, Cardiff Great Hall, and two nights at London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town.
