Corpus Delicti Unleash Liminal After Three Decades

Corpus Delicti have been away for three decades. I’d never heard of them until now. That’s on me, because after diving into the new album Liminal and the lead single ‘Room 36’, I’m kicking myself for missing out on this band for so long.

Formed in Nice back in 1992, the French post-punk outfit made waves with their debut Twilight before going quiet in 1997. Their music kept finding new ears though, and Cleopatra Records signing them for reissues in 2019 introduced them to a whole new generation. Now they’re back with their first full-length studio album in thirty years.

‘Room 36’ is an intriguing, dark story that had me absolutely hooked. Classic goth rock at its finest, and just as the video was getting good, it ended. I need more of this narrative. The track features a collaboration with contemporary artist Jean-Luc Verna, who also created the album artwork. There’s something timeless about what Corpus Delicti do.

Liminal was produced by guitarist Franck Amendola alongside the band and mastered in London at The Exchange by Graeme Durham, who has worked with Björk, Massive Attack, and U2. The album sits at the intersection of past and present, honouring their origins while bringing a sharper, contemporary edge.

The band are bringing Liminal to the UK this February with seven dates across the country. They’ll be playing Edinburgh, Newcastle, Leeds, Birmingham, Portsmouth, Bristol, and wrapping up at The Garage in London on 28th February. Expect material from the new album alongside classics from their catalogue.

If you’re into The Cure, Joy Division, or Bauhaus, Corpus Delicti deserve a spot on your radar.

Liminal is out now via Twilight Music.
