Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield, the bassist who held down the low end for both The Stone Roses and Primal Scream, is taking his stories on the road. Not with a bass strapped on, but in an intimate spoken word tour that kicks off next autumn and rolls into 2027. This will be fantastic for fans of British rock history.
The Stone Roses were the band that cracked open the door for everything that followed: Oasis, The Verve, the whole Madchester explosion. That self-titled debut album? Still sounds as fresh now as it did when it dropped.
And Spike Island in 1990? Twenty seven thousand people showed up to watch something that would get dubbed ‘Madchester’s Woodstock’, and they weren’t wrong. It became the stuff of legend, eventually spawning its own film. Mani was right there in the thick of it.
From 1997 to 2012, Mani was laying down grooves with Primal Scream, bringing his signature pocket to Screamadelica-era madness. Then, when The Stone Roses reunited for their stadium-sized comeback, he was back where he belonged.
This tour is Mani pulling back the curtain on all of it. He’ll be talking about ‘Fools Gold‘, Wembley Stadium, the court cases, bucket hats, Adidas tracksuits, and everything in between.
“This is the perfect time in my life to look back and reflect on the highs and lows, and the mad times of my career,” Mani said. “I can’t wait to see you all and share the best of times.”
