Hex Poseur Tackles Toxic Masculinity on New Single

Hex Poseur

Hex Poseur

Hex Poseur is calling bullshit on the alpha male. The Nottingham garage rocker drops her new single ‘The Alpha’ this month, a sludgy, riff-heavy takedown of toxic masculinity and the so-called “red pill movement” that’s been polluting corners of the internet for far too long. It’s angry, it’s funny, and it absolutely slaps.

Here’s what makes this track hit different: Hex puts herself in the role of the alpha male throughout the song, which is both absurd and entirely the point. “I’m obviously not actually male or alpha,” she says. “And that’s really the point. The alpha male is a ridiculous concept, and demeaning to both men and women.”

That DIY punk attitude runs through everything Hex does. Her stage name itself pays homage to X-Ray Spex and their classic ‘I Am a Poseur’, mixing gothic sensibilities with vintage punk irreverence.

The 26-year-old leads on vocals and guitar, backed by Jacob Wakeling on drums and Holly Osborne on bass. Think stoner rock swagger meets garage grit, all wrapped up in lyrics that expose the absurdity they’re skewering.

The accompanying music video promises the same energy. “We’ve reflected that comic tone in our music video which will hopefully make viewers smile and be cross at the same time,” Hex explains.

This release marks a significant shift for Hex. It’s her first independent single since parting ways with her label, and you can hear that freedom in the darker, heavier direction she’s pursuing. Following 2023’s Stunning LP and last year’s Sheriff Sessions live EP, ‘The Alpha’ signals the beginning of a new chapter, with two EPs already planned for the coming year.

The music video is out now, with Bandcamp release on February 6th and streaming on February 13th. If you’re tired of the same tired narratives and want rock music that actually has something to say, Hex Poseur is for you.
