Iconic Eye

British rock band Iconic Eye has released the title track of their forthcoming new EP Back From Behind The Sun as a single.

Iconic Eye burst onto the rock scene in 2015 when they self-released their debut album, Hidden in Plain Sight. Appearances on Jake’s Stage at Download Festival and supporting The Treatment at Rockingham’s Pre-party followed, with an appearance at Hard Rock Hell the following year.

In 2017, the band made the move to become a female-fronted band. This change lifted the existing songs and created the right environment for the band to start writing again. Their second album Into The Light was first released via Skyfire Records that November, and is subsequently also available now on iTunes and on high street outlets supported by Cargo Distribution.

In 2018 they supported Magnum on their Scandinavian tour, and subsequently supported the likes of Hardline, Lee Aaron and Kee Marcello on dates in the UK and Europe, alongside festival appearances. They followed this in 2019, supporting Hardline (for the third time), Y&T, Pete Way (ex-UFO) and Last in Line enabling the band to grow its fan base.

Iconic Eye now features new vocalist Smith (Previously known as Janey Bombshell when singing with The Supersonic 70s Show Rocka-Roll-Around), alongside Greg Dean on rhythm guitar, twin leads, keyboards and backing vocals), lead guitarist Neil Hackett, bass player and backing vocalist Mike Dagnall, formally of Dante Fox, Max Bacon & Vega; and fellow former Dante Fox drummer Jon Cooksey, who’s also played on Bob Catley of Magnum’s solo albums.

The band has released a video for the ‘Back From Behind The Sun’ single that you can watch here at RAMzine.

Recorded at M2 Studios in Coven, West Midlands, the Back From Behind The Sun EP features four original songs co-written mainly by Greg Dean and Smith, with additional music supplied by Hackett, plus a cover of Jefferson Starship hit ‘Jane’.

Dean and Smith took time out to discuss the tracks on the record:

‘Behind The Sun’: “We wrote this song because we’d been away for a while, and not released any new material. This is where it starts for us right now. We wanted an anthem, a positive to mark our return,” said Dean.

‘Jane’: “The band have always played this live, so it made sense to record it finally. we love the energy it brings and wanted to get it down finally,” Said Smith.

‘Ghost Town’: “This is my personal favourite on the new EP,” said Smith. “I wrote the lyrics to this song right at the start of lockdown. I called Greg and said I’ve just walked back from my village shop and it’s like a ghost town – and well, there you go!”

‘Have My Day’: “The music was written by our lead guitarist Neil Hackett, said their lead vocalist. “When I heard it, I thought it was an energetic piece, quite empowering to listen to. I wanted to write about a journey through life, about not giving up. staying focused with your eye on the prize. Not giving up until you have your day. It’s something I’m sure a lot of musicians can relate to.”

‘Femme Fatale’: “The inspiration was an awesome lady I know, I wanted to sing about a woman, rock needs more women. I guess it’s about someone that learnt the hard way but never quit,” said Smith.

In addition to this, Smith and Hackett recorded an acoustic version of the single ‘Back From Behind The Sun’ and you can watch the video to it by clicking here.

Produced by Greg Dean and Sheena Sear, and mixed Sear and Iconic Eye, the EP is available to pre-order by  clicking here. The title track will also be released as a single on Friday 6th November.
