With a CV that includes time spent with Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Average White Band, Eric Clapton, Duran Duran, Chaka Khan, Mick Jagger and Slash, you’re looking at someone who commands respect when they sit down at the drum stool, and Generation Radio has landed squarely on their feet with Steve Ferrone replacing Journey‘s Deen Castronovo in the US rock band.
With co-founders Jay DeMarcus (vocals, instrumentalist) of Rascal Flatts fame and former Chicago vocalist/bass player Jason Scheff behind the glass screen acting as producers, alongside Ferrone and guitarists/vocalists Tom Yankton (also formerly with Rascal Flatts) and Chris Rodriguez (Keith Urban, Shania Twain), Generation Radio has a new single out in ‘Montana Sky’ ahead of their Take Two album that hits the ground running on 17th April through Frontiers Music Srl.
Commenting on the new single, Jay DeMarcus revealed: “Jason and I were fortunate enough to write our first single, ‘Montana Sky’, with our buddy Chas Sanford. It was actually written for the Chicago XXX record so we’re really excited we had the chance to finally cut it!”
Regarding their own new album he said: “It was so much fun getting to make another record! We’ve been working on this one for a while and we can’t wait for everyone to hear what we’ve been up to. Once again, we have contributions from all band members. These guys are amazing and it’s an honour to make music with them, I believe this record is our best work yet.”
“Here we go! Take Two, round two,” Jason Scheff chipped in. “We had such a great reception on our first record we’ve been chomping at the bit to get this one finished and released. I’m extremely proud to show that we have a band that is still at the top of our game. In what other industry can you deliver as kids and be able to go back in and create the quality of what you’ve been recognised for? I truly believe this work stands up to any of the records we’ve ever made creating some of pop and country’s biggest hits. I can’t wait to see how the public reacts to this one!” he continued.
With Take Two, Generation Radio honours the legacy of AOR and West Coast rock and beyond, combining elite musicianship and genre-crossing influences into a record that’s as fresh as it is nostalgic.
Beyond new songs like the cinematic, harmony-laden new single ‘Montana Sky’, Generation Radio has reimagined versions of timeless classics performed in their live sets, including Whitesnake‘s ‘Here I Go Again’ and a rock version of Rascal Flatts‘ classic ‘These Days’.
The full track listing for Take Two is: ‘Montana Sky’, ‘The Melody’, ‘These Days’, ‘Maybe Monday’, ‘Grass Is Greener’, ‘Love History’, ‘Last Night’s Whiskey’, ‘Here I Go Again’, ‘You’re The Inspiration’, ‘I’m Alright’, ‘For A Soldier’ and ‘Hate This Heart’. The album is available to pre-order now.
