J.B.O. Rocking in The Free World

For over 30 years, Germany’s J.B.O. has been specialists in vociferous escapism. Gold albums, frenetically acclaimed live appearances and top ten chart positions have all been previously recorded. Their latest album, Planet Pink, on AFM Records, being no exception. Fun has been the name of the game, but it appears there’s been a change in the air.

J.B.O. vocalist & guitarist Hannes commented: “There are things, that even we at J.B.O. do not find amusing. With what is currently happening in the world, we want to play something serious because we don’t want to ignore all of the suffering without saying a word.

“Since this song is live frenetically acclaimed by our fans, we are now releasing it just like that: raw and live and without any connection to an album release, recorded at Wacken Open Air 2023. Keep on rocking in the free world!”

And that’s what happened, the band has released a cover of the iconic Neil Young number ‘Rocking in The Free World’.

Available digitally you can check out the video here at RAMzine.

Back in March they issued the single Einhorn‘ – That In English translates as “unicorn” apparently. You can also check out the video for it right here at RAMzine, just as you can the lyric video for previous single ‘Nicht Doof.

Usually band songwriters Vito C. and Hannes ‘G.Laber’ Holzmann sit together on a couch and exchange ideas for songs. However, for Planet Pink, due to the pandemic, they jammed through the phone. It worked out just as well for them.

Planet Pink was recorded with producer Christoph Beyerlein at Sound and Groove studio, Nuremberg. Beyerlein’s been part of the J.B.O. family since 1994 and the fifth band member in the studio.

Supervised by the observing ears of Beyerlein, the rest of the crew sorted and refined a lot of demo recordings for only one reason: in the end there will be just one planet glow in the brassiest colours. “It’s Planet Pink!”

Tracks featured on the album are: ‘Planet Pink’, ‘Rockmusik Hat Mich Versaut’,’ Metal Was My First Love’, ‘Immer Noch Am Leben’, ‘Einhorn’, ‘Expeditionen Ins Geistreich’, ‘Klassiker!’, ‘Nicht Doof’, ‘Mi-Ma-Metal’, ‘Glaub Mir Lieber Nicht’, ‘Wir Kommen Alle In Die Hölle’ and ‘Volks-Prog’.
