Out now is Gargoyle Of The Garden State, the debut solo album from Skid Row‘s Rachel Bolan, out on earMUSIC.
What started casually as a conversation between friends evolved into a record when Bolan hung out with multi-Grammy-winning producer Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Skid Row, Rush, Evanescence, Alice In Chains).
“Gargoyle Of The Garden State is not a project, it is every bit of my soul,” claimed Bolan. “Like me, it knows when to be serious and also knows where the party is.”
Corey Taylor, Danko Jones, Nuno Bettencourt, Damon Johnson, Steve Conte, and fellow Skid Row members Scotti Hill, Dave ‘Snake’ Sabo and Rob Hammersmith all number among those guesting on the album, with Bolan commenting on their contributions: “It was incredible to work with so many of my talented friends. An experience that I wish everyone could feel at least once in their life.”
After four decades as a driving force behind Skid Row, bassist and songwriter Bolan is said to be at his most honest on the record, described as a deeply personal debut rooted in the grit, attitude, and storytelling spirit of his New Jersey upbringing.
The album draws on influences ranging from Britpop and glam to punk rock and new wave, with a cover of Oasis’ ‘Rock And Roll Star’ reimagined through Bolan’s distinctive lens.
Just released is ‘Memory’, the latest single from the long player, finding Bolan in a more introspective mood, with direct, heartfelt lyrics. Bolan sings, plays bass and guitar on the track, with Damon Johnson on lead guitar, Rob Hammersmith drumming and Matt Farley on backing vocals.
