Review: Aeges – Weightless

With no nonsense, Aeges (ÆGES) launches deafening riffs that ooze with captivating spirit. Weightless bears witness to the band’s creativity and emotional endeavour; its fierce appetite pushes the boundaries with more than just a nasty riff, but with energetic beats that pulverize in crushing dynamics.

Save Us’ gives us a very individual experience of mellow vocal and musical content, being rich in captivating harmonies and anthemic grandeur.

A Reason Why’ sees the drumming shine and stirs up a frenzy of sorts, with powerful riffs and urgent vocals.

Clear’ switches from drums in the previous track to allow the guitar to enjoy the limelight with a compelling bassline in tow, pulsing with a melodic hue that is all welcoming.

All Of Me’ is a striking encounter with just what a guitar can do with a backdrop of pulsating jagged rhythms; its strength is prevalent with tempered vocal adventure and it is expertly delivered.

Another Wasteland’ sees the band offer an eerie lunge which is not only diverse but very creative; its flair is captivating and explored with a solid bass hook and sonic beats.

Echoes’ wastes no time in plunging the ears into a frenzy of mad beats which conquer in an all-out bid to gain attention.

‘What If’ is an epic track that displays a certain magic as the track unfolds with warm rhythms and enthralling soundscapes, melting with powerful endeavour.

Nothing to Prove’ again opens with something different as the band once again make good use of their instruments and provide a startling track that bounces on an enthusiastic rhythm which canters to success.

Better’ is probably the most mainstream track so far on the album, with a general feel about it that wouldn’t go amiss on mainstream radio.

Drown’ is hard hitting and back to a heavier trend, with the riffs being harsh and powerful, although the vocals restrain the moment from being all-out heavy.

Listening’, with its superb harmonies and strenuous drum beats, takes on a melodic feel and is quite an eye opening track as the vocals become harsh and unyielding before taking on a more settled approach.

Drying Out’ is a slow paced dirge showing a doom edge and is rather dream-like although still captivating in its own right.

Released July 22nd via Another Century Records.
