Sydney’s post-hardcore scene has always had a heartbeat, but Closure want you to feel it. Fronted by Lucy, this four-piece are chasing the feeling that someone else gets it. One word sums up what to expect when you hit play. Nostalgia.
For anyone meeting you for the first time, who are Closure and where are you from?
Hi! My name is Lucy, and I’m the frontwoman of Closure. We’re a Sydney-based post-hardcore band. Expect nostalgia.
Sydney has a serious post-hardcore lineage. How has being based there shaped the band you’ve become?
The music scene in Sydney has always been incredibly strong. The hardcore community is absolutely wonderful and one we truly resonate with. The support, people showing up to gigs, buying merch, there’s a real sense of community, and we’re super grateful for that.
Your debut EP ‘The Sweet Suffering’ dropped in July 2025. Looking back, what did it teach you?
We are all so proud of how ‘The Sweet Suffering’ came together so naturally. Remaining as DIY as possible is something we’re genuinely stoked on, it meant we were able to bring our visions to life and be as hands-on as possible. In terms of what we learned, we tried a few different writing styles after we wrapped the EP. Right now, the possibilities feel endless, and we are more inspired than ever.
New single ‘Empty Hands’ marks a bold new chapter. What’s changed since the EP?
Honestly, confidence. We have all gone through such major transformations as individuals, and we are so proud of how far we’ve come. ‘The Sweet Suffering’ was definitely the beginning of something beautiful for us as people and as a band.
The track digs into frustration and watching someone stuck in destructive patterns. Where did it come from emotionally?
For me personally, I felt like I was doing everything in my power to be better and to do better, to look after myself, to heal, to grow, to allow myself to fully blossom, but there were people around me who I felt were continuing old ways and staying stuck in the same direction.
You handle almost everything in-house as a four-piece. What’s the reality of that?
Honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way. We handle everything in-house except photography and videography, which our dear friend Max Pasalic absolutely nails for us, he truly gets the vision every single time. We also work with our friend Christopher Vernon for mastering, who is fantastic. Other than that, it’s all us. We’ve found a good rhythm now where everyone has a job to do, and we all knuckle down and get it done.
You played the Sydney leg of Good Things Festival. What did that feel like?
Hot! It was ridiculous, but one of the most amazing experiences of our career so far. It honestly was hard to believe we were there until we were on stage, and it’s something we’ll never forget. The Closure live experience may be a bit more intense than the record, but our goal is definitely to sound as true to the record as possible.
Give us a band story?
We are constantly making each other laugh. We’re all super into Fortnite and play together most nights. It’s always funny when someone tries to bring up something band-related and someone else interrupts to say, “I need a med kit.”
FFOs put you alongside Underoath, Static Dress and Holding Absence. Are those genuine touchstones?
Ten thousand per cent. Those three bands have genuinely changed my life. They’re all doing something so cool and genuine, and it really resonates with the way I feel about post-hardcore and emo music. Truly some of the most talented people doing it.
Post-hardcore is having a serious moment globally right now. Where do you see Closure fitting in?
I hope people who listen to Closure feel a sense of comfort and nostalgia. I’m so happy there’s been such an insane post-hardcore resurgence. I just hope people see what we’re going for creatively and can resonate with it in some way.
What’s next for Closure?
Definitely more music. We’ve just gotten off tour with nothing, nowhere. and sace6 in Australia, and we’re all feeling so inspired. A tour beyond Australia has always been such a huge dream for us, it would mean the world if it came to fruition. We’d love to share our music with other parts of the world.
Finally, one Closure track to win over a RAMzine reader. Which one and why?
‘Empty Hands’! It’s probably our most bouncy song yet, and it’s the latest release, so I’d go with that.
