Back in 2004, producer, bass player and multi-instrumentalist Fabrizio Grossi put together the album project Over The Edge. Among others, it featured Neal Schon, Richie Kotzen and Steve Lukather on guitars, all fronted by Mickey Thomas, the voice behind hits for Starship, Jefferson Starship and the Elvin Bishop Band.
That album is to be reissued on 21 August by Frontiers Music Srl in a special anniversary edition, as the label celebrates “three decades of Frontiers’ commitment to melodic rock and AOR excellence”.
A newly remixed version of ‘Surrender (Featuring Neal Schon)’ is available now as the first single from the anniversary edition, a highlight from the album showcasing the signature style of Journey and early Santana guitarist Schon.
The reissue brings renewed focus to what was always an all-star project, featuring songs penned by writers such as Schon, Damn Yankees and Night Ranger‘s Jack Blades, and Freddy Curci, among others.
Schon, Toto‘s Lukather and The Winery Dogs‘ Kotzen deliver guitar performances said to “add depth, character, and undeniable class to the album’s rich sonic landscape”, and so too Rob Vanni and JM Scattolin, with additional guitars, bass and keyboard from Grossi, plus bass by Kenny Wilkerson and drumming from Biggs Brice.
Aside from handling all lead vocals, Thomas adds backing ones too, as do Francis Benitez, Josh Johnston and Grossi.
Remixed by Aldo Lonobile, this anniversary edition enhances the album’s dynamics, bringing greater clarity, punch and modern definition, while said to fully preserve the spirit of the original recordings.

Revisited and revitalised, this edition stands as both a tribute to the album’s enduring appeal and a celebration of the talent behind it.
