Hailing from Cork, Ireland; Callas craft an ambient soundscape that’s both heavy and otherworldly on their forthcoming EP, Days, due 26th July.
Described as “a bold and cathartic force in the realm of post-rock and experimental metal” the band features seasoned musicians Dom Murphy (Vocals, guitars and keyboards), Cormac Shanely (Bass), Ruairi Lynch (Guitar, production) and Evan Prendergast (Drums). Callas brings together former members of the post-rock group Ealadha and producer Ruairi Lynch from Bantum driven by a collective desire to push the boundaries of heavy and experimental music.
Featuring three tracks in ‘Days’, ‘Sunlight’ and ‘Porous’ on the EP, Callas recently released title track as a single, and that’s accompanied by a music video created and directed by Aodhagan O Riabhaigh, that you can check out here at RAMzine.
Days is essentially a collection of songs showcasing the band’s fearlessness and desire to meld together different genres. Dripping with drama and majesty, the three songs weave between themes of loss, fear and defiance.
This release embodies a dreamlike quality, featuring textures that fuse a diverse array of influences. A masterful juxtaposition of light and dark, exploring profound themes such as loss, death, despair, rebirth, and the transcendental forces of nature through its lyrical content.
Throughout the track list there’s a cathartic journey filled with moments of melancholy, hope, and a profound sense of time designed to take listeners on a transcendental experience. Callas consistently aims to capture those chilling, spine-tingling moments, creating sounds that seem as if they emanate from another planet, making Days not only catchy but deeply immersive throughout.
