Sacramento alternative heavyweights Dance Gavin Dance have shared a re-recorded version of ‘The Robot With Human Hair, Pt. 3’, the latest taste of upcoming acoustic-flavoured live-style album Tree City Sessions 3. The track originally appeared on the band’s 2008 self-titled album and now returns reworked for the current lineup.
The Tree City Sessions series has always given each Dance Gavin Dance lineup a chance to reach into the back catalogue and put its own stamp on it. We really like that approach — it acknowledges the band’s complicated history with rotating vocalists rather than papering over it, and makes the entire catalogue feel collectively owned by every era of the group.
Vocalist Andrew Wells said of the track: “The entire Tree City Sessions series has given us the opportunity to showcase each lineup’s strengths on various songs throughout the entire catalog. Growing up I was a huge fan of the Deathstar album, so being able to emulate Kurt and bring my own passion to this version of Robot 3 was truly an honor.”
Tree City Sessions 3 arrives digitally on 22nd May 2026 via Rise Records, with a full physical retail release following on 19th June. A limited tour variant will also be available at shows from 22nd May while stocks last. The 12-track listing pulls in fan favourites including ‘It’s Safe To Say You Dig The Backseat’, ‘Eagle vs. Crows’, ‘Burning Down The Nicotine Amoire’, ‘Self-Trepanation’, ‘Doom & Gloom’ and ‘Powder To The People’. The vinyl edition adds a full instrumental version of every track.
The band have kicked off a two-month North American headline run in Austin, with The Fall Of Troy, Horse The Band, Wolf & Bear and Novelists in support, hitting Chicago, Toronto, Boston, NYC, Nashville, Denver and beyond. Festival appearances at Sonic Temple and Vans Warped Tour are also locked in for later in the year.
UK and EU fans will not be left out: Dance Gavin Dance return to these shores in September 2026, with a London date at O2 Forum Kentish Town on 12th September alongside stops in Manchester, Glasgow, Birmingham and Bristol, plus mainland European shows in Amsterdam, Paris, Berlin and Cologne.
