Funeral Fest is a two-day underground metal and punk festival that will take place at the Soccer Bar (Barrow-in-Furness LA14 5UQ) on June 30th and July 1st, 2023. The festival has been running for several years, showcasing some of the best talent in the UK scene, including headline sets from Newcastle’s Avenger, Abaddon and France’s Skelethal. This year’s event promises to be our most ambitious yet with an impressive lineup of twenty diverse heavy acts ranging from internationally recognised artists to rising newcomers and promising underground powerhouses.
Raging Speedhorn will headline Friday night with their sludgy hardcore riffs. Formed in 1998, they quickly made a name for themselves in the metal scene with high profile slots at Download Festival and Reading/Leeds as well as a UK singles chart hit early on. With their unique blend of Sabbath-esque heaviness and relentless punk energy, Raging Speedhorn have been laying waste to venues worldwide for over two decades.
Saturday night belongs to legendary British punk band Discharge who are widely regarded as one of the most important and influential bands in both metal and punk history. Starting their career in the late ’70s, they ramped up the intensity of bands like The Damned and The Sex Pistols with intelligent anarchic lyrics set against faster tempos. Their influence can be heard across countless bands such as Metallica, Machine Head, Anthrax, Napalm Death, Sepultura (to name but a few), making them true icons of music history.
Additionally, there will be post-concert shows on both evenings featuring live performances by Hollywood Ratz, a Merseyside band specializing in 80s Metal covers, and Motorbeard, Cumbria’s top tribute act to Lemmy and his bandmates.
