Sweet, one of the most legendary, influential and enduring names in the history of rock music, will rerelease their 2012 studio album New York Connection on 18th April via Metalville Records – The CD version also includes four bonus tracks not included on the original release.
New York Connection is a selection of tracks originally written by other artists, that Sweet gave their own distinctive sound – the band at that time featured the perennial guitars of Andy Scott who also sang lead vocals on ‘Jane’ alongside longtime drummer Bruce Bisland, while Tony O’Hora played keyboards and sang lead vocal on ‘Because The Night’, with Pete Lincoln on bass and all lead vocals.
‘As well as a decent selection of must-haves, we’ve also added guitar riffs, drum beats or vocal lines from our own classics where appropriate.’ noted Scott of the recording.
Examples being the guitar line from Sweet’s ‘Burn On The Flame’ incorporated into ‘It’s All Moving Faster’, while The Ramones’ ‘Blitzkrieg Bop’ contains elements of ‘The Ballroom Blitz’. Of particular note is the fusion of Russ Ballard’s ‘New York Groove’ (previously covered by both Hello and Kiss guitarist Ace Frehley) with Jay-Z’s ‘Empire State Of Mind’.
The full track listing for New York Connection is ‘New York Groove’, ‘Gold On The Ceiling’, ‘It’s All All Moving Faster’, ‘New York Connection’, ‘Shapes Of Things’, ‘You Spin Me Right Round (Like A Record)’, ‘Because The Night’, ‘Jane’, ‘Blitzkrieg Bop’, ‘On Broadway’, ‘Join Together’, ‘All Moving Faster (PDQ mix)’, ‘Join together (original TV Mix)’, ‘New York Groove (Acoustic)’, and ‘You Spin Me Right Round (Live At Sweden Rock 2013)’.
