Be Somebody with The Damn Truth this November

Montreal’s The Damn Truth will be returning to the UK for what’s become a 12-date November tour with Nashville-based Southern blues rockers Parker Barrow newly announced as their special guests.

A little ahead of the tour, and out now is The Damn Truth’s latest single, ‘Be Somebody’ released through Spectra Musique.

“’Be Somebody’ was the first song we wrote for our current album The Damn Truth, and the last one we recorded,” said guitarist Tom Shemer. “When the final mix came through the speakers, our producer, Bob Rock, leaned back and said, ‘F***, this is good!’ We all felt it. There was this electric moment in the studio. Pure euphoria!”

Shemer continued: “Listening to that mix, knowing the record was done, I felt this wave of pride and nostalgia hit me. It took me back to those late nights writing, digging into parts of myself I hadn’t touched before. ‘Be Somebody’ is the first track on our album, but it’s really a reflection of who we are, and what we became when we made this record.”

Initial folksy acoustic chords soon give way to psych-tinged power chorded rock on The Damn Truth‘s new single ‘Be Somebody’ that’s a sugar-coated rush of enthusiatic dreaming, purposeful ambition, but ultimately a desire to be loved.

Regarding the tour, popular demand resulted in the psychedelic four-piece rock and roll band adding a new date with them heading up to Scotland to play Mac Arts in Galashiels, on Sunday 16th November – Previously announced as performing at Oran Mor in Glasgow on that date, Glaswegians will now get to see them Monday 17th November.

‘Be Somebody’ is available to stream on Spotify and is accompanied with an official music video that can be viewed here at RAMzine.

The tour starts at Norwich Waterfront Studio (Wednesday 12th November, takes in London Underworld (Friday 21st November), and finishes at The Globe, Cardiff (Sunday 23rd November), so the whole of Great Britain gets to see The Damn Truth this tour.

“We’re very excited to return to the UK for another tour,” said The Damn Truth‘s lead singer and guitarist, Lee-la Baum. “We always enjoy performing shows in England. The enthusiasm of UK audiences is incredible.”

It was this summer gone when the band’s previous single ‘Addicted’ wass released and you can still stream it here and check out the video to below. “‘Addicted’ was born from that raw, painful place of not fitting in,” said Baum at the time.

“It speaks to the dark spiral we sometimes fall into just to feel accepted – Chasing trends, numbing who we are, losing ourselves piece by piece. But at its core, this song is a rebellion. A loud, unapologetic cry of freedom. A middle finger to conformity. ‘Addicted’ is about reclaiming your identity and owning it with zero shame. This is who I am. Take it or leave it.”

With fast-mouthed rapping and some anthemic soulful callouts over a hard-working funk rock out The Damn Truth‘s new single ‘Addicted’ sees them exploring fertile new territory – If you’re a fan of classic rock crossover act Mother’s Finest or ever wondered what a female fronted Hot Wire-era Trapeze might sound like, check this cookie out.

In 2021, the band released their critically acclaimed breakout album Now or Nowhere. Produced by legendary Grammy Award winning Bob Rock(Motley Crue, The Offspring, Bon Jovi). They followed it this March with the self-titled album The Damn Truth album, also produced by Bob Rock) that you can read more about at RAMzine by clicking here, and ordering on vinyl and CD here and  digitally here.

Back in May, they released the single ‘All Night Long’ that you can also stream on Spotify and check out the video to below.

With a big anthem callout opening before surging into rampant late 70s racing rocker there’s also an impressive instrumental section, but it’s when Baum gets damn serious on ‘All Night Long’, giving it full throttle and declaring it’s “now or never” while making out under the stars with the one she loves that things hot up – Come the chorus, live everyone can join in on this singalong.
