Taking the stage as the penultimate band of the weekend, SOiL really had to step their game due to the high calibre of performances across the whole weekend on both stages. Opening with “Break It Down”, the band show that they have still got the fire they had when they first broke through 10 years ago.
Frontman Ryan McCombs was brilliant with the crowd, laughing and joking between all of the band’s hits, including “Pride”, “Inside”, “My Time” and “Unreal”. This performance really was a band on their A-game, firing out heavy riffs with unnerving accuracy and the crowd loved every minute.
However, when SOiL played their final song, “Halo”, the place simply went wild. McCombs was absent at the start of the song, and suddenly appeared in the middle of the crowd at the front! He stayed there for the entire song and sang without missing a note, even encouraging members of the audience to join in. A wonderful moment which showed the bond between the band and their fans, which remains iron strong to this day.
It doesn’t seem like 5 minutes since SOiL first exploded onto the world music scene 10 years ago. With a performance like this, they are proving once again that they are a timeless band. A very special performance from one of the most underrated and important bands of recent times.
