Black Ink River

With a ‘70s retro-rock revolution underway meet Black Ink River, the newest arrival to the party and all the way from Västerås in Sweden.

Dano Wahlström (vocals/percussion), Bosse Karlsson (guitar), Anders Modd (bass) and Roger Johannessen (drums) formerly played with bands like Wolf, GrandExit, Monaco Blues Band and Uncle Doghouse before joining forces to make rock music they liked with loads of groovy riffs.

What started out as a studio project ended up as something much more ambitious as they pooled influences such as Fleetwood Mac, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Jimi Hendrix while writing and rehearsing.

The band’s first gig was at a club in the band’s hometown where it sold out and immediately started a buzz going.  GMR Music caught wind of the ruckus the band were creating and a deal was quickly put in place.

Shortly afterward Black Ink River began work on Headstrong, recording in drummer Johannessen’s Wacka Playground Studio. The mixing and mastering being done by Vasse at Sinsound Studio. “We wanted a warm organic sound so we used a lot of analogue gear through the process to get the right sound. The record really sounds like music did in the seventies,” said frontman Wahlstrom.

Headstrong by Black Ink River features the tracks ‘The Witch And The Wolf’, ‘My Church’, ‘In the End’, ‘The Vultures Among Us’, ‘We Worship The Darkness’, ‘Headstrong’, ‘Heartbreaker’, ‘City Of Broken Glass’, ‘Useless’ and ‘Breathe’ and is available through GMR Music.
