David Minasian will release the deeply rooted progressive rock album The Sound Of Dreams later this year, but acting as prequel is the single ‘So Far From Home‘, out now on Golden Robot Records.
Keyboard player, vocalist, composer and producer’s previous release, 2010’s critically acclaimed Random Acts of Beauty, featured a rare guest appearance by Andrew Latimer, lead guitarist with progressive rock band Camel.
The Sound Of Dreams will similarly feature compositions and performances by some of the biggest names in prog: Justin Hayward (The Moody Blues), Steve Hackett (Genesis), Annie Haslam (Renaissance), Billy Sherwood (Yes), PJ Olsson (The Alan Parsons Live Project) Julie Ragins (The Moody Blues Live) and Geof O’Keefe (Pentagram).
Musically, David Minasian is a keyboard player, vocalist, composer who began classical piano training at the age of five. He is also a motion picture producer, director and writer with over 150 credits to his name. He has worked alongside some of Hollywood’s elite including Mel Gibson as well as many musical icons including Elton John, The Moody Blues, Alan Parsons, Kris Kristofferson and Three Dog Night.
As a producer and director, Minasian created a number of documentary and concert videos for various musical acts including nine for Camel, and five for legendary Moody Blues frontman Justin Hayward whose Minasian-directed DVD Spirits Live reached #2 on the Billboard video charts and was broadcast on the PBS network.
In 2016, Minasian’s film The Story Behind Nights In White Satin, detailing the history of The Moody Blues’ signature song, earned a best documentary award from the Idyllwild International Festival of Cinema. Working again with Hayward, Minasian co-wrote the theme for the motion picture The Wind of Heaven, that became the best-selling download from Hayward’s All the Way greatest hits CD, as well as the name of Hayward’s 2017 World Tour.
Current single, ‘So Far From Home’ features PJ Olsson on vocals, and can be streamed/bought here. Alongside Minasian, the parent album will feature lead guitar work from his son, Justin, and a return guest appearance by Camel’s Andrew Latimer who on the track ‘Masquerade’. While the 11-minute title track brings Steve Hackett, Annie Haslam and Billy Sherwood together for the first time on the same recording.
“These are the heroes I grew up with,” said Minasian. “Co-writing and recording with them was a dream come true. Therefore, the album’s title couldn’t be more accurate – for this is what dreams coming true sound like.”
