New track ‘Night Terror’ seems to utilise elements from major moments in the band’s discography; thematically, it’s reminiscent of ‘A Nightmare to Remember’ with riffing straight out of As I Am or Constant Motion. If you had any affinity for the Dream Theater albums of the 2000s, then you’re definitely going to find something to connect with on Night Terror.
Parasomnia looks to be a significant chapter in the Dream Theater discography with yet another epic 20-minute track. The inclusion of this was expected, but there’s still a chance for the gang to surprise us. Even if they don’t, there will still be incredible musicianship, as evidenced by the grand trade-off solos between Jordan Rudess and John Petrucci and the Portnoyest fills Portnoy has ever done.
This will be their first album with original drummer and founding member Mike Portnoy in 16 years following his departure after Black Clouds & Silver Linings. Dream Theater are set to begin a massive world tour starting in London on October 20th, there’s a high chance this song will be on the setlist.
