Following 2019’s An Extraordinary Life, a unique box set collection of John Wettton’s solo album career, it was announced that a new biography about the legendary bass player and vocalist, bearing the same title, would be released.
The date for its publication has now been officially announced as of 19th June this year, and fans can now pre-order the book about the legendary singer and bass player.
Under the supervision of Wetton’s family and management, An Extraordinary Life will consist of some 252 pages, with photographs and be available in two editions.
Some seventy-plus people who knew and worked with Wetton, from his school days through to such illustrious names from Britain’s proud rock history tapestry as Family, King Crimson, Uriah Heep, Wishbone Ash, Roxy Music, U.K., Asia, The John Wetton Band and beyond, pay witness and tribute to his life and work.
Among those quoted along with his family are Steve Howe, Phil Manzanera, Bill Bruford, Robert Fripp, Carl Palmer, Rick Wakeman, Dave Kilminster, Geoff Downes – Sharing stories of friendship, music and sometimes craziness with reflections on what made John Wetton such an unforgettable musician and prog rock legend.
Importantly, along with stories of his musical success are those from friends and family who do not steer clear of his problems, but rather explain the why, the how, and eventual triumph over them in honest and touching recollections. Along with the stories are personal and classic photos of Wetton at work and play in two extensive photo sections of An Extraordinary Life.
Lisa Wetton, the late musician’s wife, has made a video revealing contents about the book that you can view here at RAMzine.
For a limited period, people can choose to be a part of John Wetton An Extraordinary Life by adding a name to the Roll of Honour of supporters printed in the back. Pre-ordering also comes with a discount on the standard retail price.
Both the Classic and black-jacketed Signature edition (signed by John’s widow Lisa and son Dylan) contain the first-person testimony of some seventy-plus people who knew and worked with John from his school days and throughout his long, illustrious career.
Along with tales of musical success from those who knew him best are testimony from friends and family, who do not steer clear of John’s problems, but rather explain the why, the how, and eventual triumph over them, in honest and touching recollections.

“He had a love for fast cars, fine food, coffee, the Rams (that’s Derby County for non-football followers), films, books, crosswords, current affairs, sport, languages, classical music – Anything that would stimulate his mind that he could use to great effect in his music and lyrics,” said Geoff Downes, of Asia, the band co-founded by Wetton.
