Swedish doom and hard rock collective Avatarium‘s new studio album, entitled Between You, God, The Devil And The Dead, is out now via AFM Records, following on from their hard-hitting, anthemic single ‘I See You Better In The Dark’ that came out at the tail-end of last year.
“This album was made to be experienced on vinyl & CD!” decalred the band.”You will get the full sound (not the 25% you get on Spotify) plus the fantastic artwork by Eric Rovanpera. Our record company didn’t cut any corners, so the vinyl is heavy and the cover looks extremely beautiful! We also want to give a special thanks to Marcel Dummer; Mona Miluski and the rest of AFM for helping us create this peace of art that we are extremely proud of!“
Avatarium has evolved since their 2013 self-titled debut, with the band now featuring Jennie-Ann Smith (Vocals), Jidell (Guitars), Andreas Habo Johansson (Drums & percussion) and Mats Rydström (Bass).
“18 months ago we decided to make another album and now it’s (finally) written, recorded and mixed!“ Jidell said. “At one point I thought we would never be able to finish it but here we are now! This album has the doom, the old school heavy metal riffs, the acoustic numbers and the classic dark gospel of Avatarium. I am very proud of what we have achieved and if this is our last album, we’ll definitely end with a bang!”
Between You, God, The Devil and The Dead was produced and mixed by Marcus Jidell, with mastering by Svante Forsbäck (Candlemass, Amorphis and many more). The album artwork was created by Erik Rovanpera.
Tracks featured on the new album are ‘Long Black Waves’, ‘I See You Better In The Dark’, ‘My Hair Is On Fire (But I’ll Take Your Hand)’, ‘Lovers Give A Kingdom To Each Other’, ‘Being With The Dead’, ‘Until Forever And Again’, ‘Notes From Underground’ and ‘Between You, God, The Devil and The Dead.
Between You, God, The Devil And The Dead is the band’s sixth full-length offering and is available as limited LP vinyl (Black, orange/white, silver), 2-CD Ear book, CD jewel case and digital formats. The physical album can be ordered here
“This is one of my favorite songs on the album, a classic Dio/Sabbath uptempo rocker with some 60s pop flavour.” Guitarist Marcus Jidell commented regarding recent single ‘I See You Better In The Dark’. “Sometimes we need a little poison to stay awake, or a spoonful of darkness to see the light”.
Still available on all digital streaming services here you can checkout the accompanying video here at RAMzine.
Previously, the album title track’s was released as a single, with Jidell commenting on it thus: “Sometimes it feels like being a true musician today is being a part of an underground resistance movement, resisting a culture that wants our brains and souls to shut down. Here’s a song that wants to turn your gaze towards something different. A song made by humans for humans”.
That single is available via digital streaming services here and you can also check out the video here at RAMzine, as you can for the one before, ‘Long Black Waves’.
The aforementioned ‘Long Black Waves’ combine gloomy hard rock with heavy doom metal accents is out now, and was the first single released from the album still streaming on all digital providers here.
Jidell said of it: “The first song is a heavy, doomy dark gospel named ‘Long Black Waves’. It’s a homage to bands like Led Zeppelin, Mountain and Black Sabbath. And as always we try to find our own twist on things to get the good ol’ Avatarium vibe going. Enjoy!”
