Coming out of Canada, performing live and on record with Bob Dylan before becoming a success in their own right, The Band may have danced their last waltz, but their legend lives strong. Now, a new generation carries their collective torch, as Samantha Martin & Delta Sugar cover ‘The Shape I’m In‘ as their latest single.
The twice JUNO-nominated 10-piece reclaim the classic with a bold, full-bodied reinterpretation, transforming it into a fiery, soul-drenched revival.
‘The Shape I’m In‘ is available on digital platforms here with a video you can check out below.
It’s the second track released from the band’s upcoming album A Beautiful Buzz, out via Gypsy Soul Records on 22nd May 2026. The record also features JUNO award-winning multi-instrumentalist Steve Marriner (MonkeyJunk).
Captured live on tour, the full tracklist for A Beautiful Buzz is ‘Love Is All Around‘, ‘Don’t Have To Be‘, ‘You’re The Love‘, ‘Good Trouble‘, ‘All Night Long‘, ‘The Shape I’m In‘, ‘I’ve Got A Feeling‘, ‘My Crown‘, ‘Loving You Is Easy‘, ‘Band Intro‘, ‘Pass Me By‘, ‘Them Changes‘, and ‘Loving Cup‘.
Described as the sound of a band at peak intensity, with a pregnant lead vocalist at the mic, feeding off the room and giving it everything back.
Listening to Samantha Martin & Delta Sugar‘s single ‘The Shape I’m In‘, you could be in some sweaty, smoke-filled club back in the mid-sixties. Deep voiced, taught horns, it jiggles and stomps to a dancing rhythm but is also perfectly content to let assorted instrumentalists fly off into freeform solo.
CD and limited-edition gatefold double vinyl editions are available from Gypsy Soul Records, with digital editions on all streaming platforms.
