Sworn return with new album, Null Crowned The Infinite, that will be out on 4th September, wherein the Norwegian melodic black metal band navigates a sprawling conceptual narrative, tracing the cyclical nature of the cosmos from its initial spark in the void to its inevitable dissolution.
Lyrically, the album explores the terrifying scale of cosmic darkness and the fragility of existence within a primordial emptiness. Sworn investigates the philosophy of becoming and unmaking, where reality and time emerge from nothingness only to eventually collapse back into the same unfathomable origin. Musically, Null Crowned The Infinite pushes the boundaries of the band’s established sound, balancing melodic tension with newfound levels of aggression and atmospheric depth. The record features ‘The Starless Origin’, a twelve-minute epic that stands as their longest composition to date, alongside ‘Fracture Of Aeons’, that the band identifies as their most aggressive track ever recorded.
Tracks featured are: ‘The Starless Origin’, ‘Null Crowned The Infinite’, ‘A Cosmic Storm’, ‘Fracture Of Aeons’, ‘The Entropic Void’ and ‘Circle Of The Eternal’.
Sworn collaborated with producer Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios, who handled the mixing and mastering. Bogren’s portfolio, featuring the likes of Opeth, Arch Enemy and Behemoth, is said to bring a polished yet devastating edge to the performances of band members Max Wilson, Christoffer Kjørsvik, Gøran Hope and Tom Ian Klungland. The album cover art is by Pär Olofsson, known for his work with Aborted and Kreator.
While Sworn continues to operate as an independent entity for the recording and production, they have partnered with The Circle Music to handle the physical releases under a special licensing deal. The release includes a digipak CD alongside two distinct vinyl variants: marbled smoke and marbled green.
Debuting in 2007 with The Alleviation, Sworn have evolved from a solitary vision into a powerful force in the black metal scene. Their history includes notable performances at major European festivals, as well as tours alongside bands including Behemoth, Aborted and Helrunar. In 2023, Sworn released A Journey Told Through Fire, an album that became a defining moment for the band. The record pushed Sworn to new heights and solidified their standing as one of Norway’s most well-known melodic black metal acts. Null Crowned The Infinite is considered a worthy successor that expands on the darkness and power that defined its predecessor while pushing deeper into bleak and atmospheric territory.
