Dirty & Divine.. It’s Thundermother

Two years on from the release of their last studio album, Black & Gold, the Swedish quartet Thundermother has finally revealed the first details about their forthcoming new studio album, entitled Dirty & Divine, that is slated for a release on 7th February 2025 via AFM Records.

Described as “a blistering onslaught of loud, proud and groovy hard rock, Dirty & Divine marks the start of a new era for Thundermother and the recorded album debut of two new members: frontwomanLinnea Vikström Egg and drummerJoan Massing. Dirty & Divine also sees the return of bassist Majsan Lindberg to the fold. Further described as “bigger, bolder and more dynamic than ever before”, the Swedes are said to be returning as an upgraded and remotivated force.

Following previously-released tracks, ‘Speaking Of The Devil’ and ‘I Left My License In The Future’, the band has unleash a music video for their latest single, the anthemic album opening track ‘So Close’.

Guitarist and founding member Filippa Nässil revealed: “‘So Close’ was so close to not being included on the album, but when we recorded it live in the studio after all the other songs were done, it turned out so well that it made it across the finish line. It seems we might have stumbled upon a hit.”

Over the course of 15 years and five widely acclaimed studio albums, Thundermother has firmly established a never-say-die spirit with a collective charisma that underpin everything they do. These women are rock ‘n’ roll diehards, and Dirty & Divine is said to take that ethos through to its logical conclusion. The sixth Thundermother album has been described as crackling and fizzling “with gritty authenticity and unstoppable passion.” Nässil and Vikström Egg , their newly forged partnership has been an unequivocal success:

“We’ve been working on this a long time, maybe a year and a half,” says Nässil, who was pregnant during the Dirty & Divine recording process and is now a Thundermother for real. “As soon as Linnea came into the band, we started sending demos to each other, and we did loads of writing, which was great, because she’s a fantastic songwriter! I was sending her the music and she was sending me these amazing lyrics and melodies. It’s been fun to work with someone that good! On the last album we had outside songwriters because we didn’t have any energy in the band, but now I can just send Linnea music and then just kick back when she sends lyrics and melodies that just crush the song.”

As the first single releases prove, there are ten, sweat-soaked anthemic gems on the album. Meanwhile, the decision to record the new material live in the studio has reaped its own rewards.

“You’ve still got the same Thundermother feeling, with my guitar playing and all of that,” said Nässil. “It’s still got a ‘70s vibe, but the melodies are catchier and the vocals are obviously different. We never stand still. I think this is the best album we’ve made so far, and I’m very picky!” she laughed. “We recorded it in Copenhagen, with Soren Andersen producing again, and we recorded eight songs in four days. So, this was the quickest recording we’ve ever done, and the best outcome!“

Dirty & Divine features the tracks: ‘So Close’, ‘Can’t Put Out The Fire’, ‘Speaking Of The Devil’, ‘Feeling Alright’, ‘Take The Power’, ‘I Left My License In The Future’, ‘Dead Or Alive’, ‘Can You Feel It’, ‘Bright Eyes’ and ‘American Adrenaline’. It can be ordered here.

Thundermother will also embark on an extensive European tour, kicking off in Hamburg, Germany in early 2025.
