Now let’s talk about something exciting – emo legends Sleeping With Sirens! The band recently played a killer sold-out show at the Ritz. What made this event even more special was seeing a new generation of emos/scene kids alongside some elder emos. It’s great to see that this subculture isn’t going extinct anytime soon!
Before doors opened for the show, some teens were blasting out 3OH!3 and Katy Perry. This instantly took me back to my college days nearly 14 years ago…my back hurts just typing that! But once Sleeping With Sirens hit the stage with their iconic tracks from every album (including their latest Complete Collapse), it was pure carnage with constant circle pits and jumping around like silly sausages. Even someone on crutches held a crutch up high like they didn’t have a care in the world!
Lead singer Kellin Quinn expressed his happiness about playing sold-out shows across America as well as being grateful for performing tonight in front of UK fans saying “it’s incredible”. He then ordered everyone to “make sh*t loud and make circle pits” before launching into ‘Crosses’. Later on during ‘Better Off Dead’, he gave an inspiring and wholesome speech about mental health awareness which resonated deeply with both him and his audience; he said that he loves us all, we all matter and it’s our job to lift everyone’s spirits. The crowd and the band were harmonizing together, it really was a remarkable heartful moment which none of us will forget.
Slowing down now as they brought out acoustic guitars for two songs from their iconic 2012 album If You Were A Movie This Would Be Your Soundtrack (‘Scene Five: With Ears To See And Eyes To Hear’ & ‘Scene Two: Roger Rabbit‘). Kellin even beatboxed during ‘Roger Rabbit’, which added another surreal element to an already amazing performance.
The night picked back up again when they played ‘Bloody Knuckles’, followed by filming footage for their next music video during crowd favorite track ‘Ctrl + Alt + Del’. Finally ending on ‘If I’m James Dean You’re Audrey Hepburn’, but there’s always time for one more song! Fans went wild when Kellin announced congratulations mid-show after crowd member Will proposed to crowd member Lydia onstage; what better way than ending off such an incredible evening than singing along together on ‘If You Can’t Hang’?
Overall? The show was amazing – we simply cannot wait until Sleeping With Sirens returns again soon!
