Night Thieves Most Influential Tracks

Night Thieves are a London quartet who deal in melody and emotion. Their sound is built on soaring choruses and vocals that tell stories, accessible enough to hook you instantly yet packed with feeling that rewards repeat listens. The band are gearing up to release their debut album, Metaxis, landing Friday 20th March. Night Thieves are Jess Moyle on vocals, Paul Andrew on guitar and synths, Rick Hunter-Burns on bass, and Ryan Delglyn on drums. Below, they share the tracks that influenced and inspired them.

Linkin Park – ‘The Emptiness Machine

We were so glad to hear Linkin Park were coming back after the tragic death of Chester Bennington, but Emily Armstrong has really brought a new dimension to the band. Their first single with her really lit a fire in us as the track builds up perfectly into the chorus, introducing their new sound. This song was hugely inspirational to us in terms of focusing on what is best for our songs as a whole, to really highlight key themes by writing hooky vocal and guitar passages that stick in the mind and create a charged soundtrack.

Novelists FR – ‘Turn It Up (Keyboard Warriors Social Club)

Novelists FR are such a unique band with their heavy intros and choruses featuring djenty and virtuoso guitar passages. We chose this song as it’s the first with their current vocalist and we feel it’s the perfect representation of their sound, especially with the feel good chorus. The production on the track is amazing and the incorporation of little details and synth sounds to augment the track really inspired us in our songwriting to focus on the most minute points.

Bad Omens – ‘Take Me First

Bad Omens are the masters of the epic chorus. The way they combine quiet synth passages with heavy guitar build ups and soaring vocals within this song really influenced the songwriting on our recent album. The vocals also carry so much emotion and Jess really used this to convey the different themes of each individual track on the album.

Bring Me the Horizon – ‘Kool-Aid

The way Bring Me the Horizon have evolved over time is incredible and every stage of that evolution has added something new. We could have picked any number of BMTH tracks but ‘Kool-Aid‘ feels like the accumulation of everything they have done up to now. The riffs hit so hard and that chorus is a massive earworm. They have managed to keep the heavy aspects and blend that with such an anthemic chorus and that is a massive influence on how we go about writing songs. The innovative production is really inspiring and this song also sounds immense live!

Incubus – ‘Nowhere Fast

Incubus are the band we probably love the most and Make Yourself is the quintessential album of theirs for us. ‘Nowhere Fast‘ stands out as the perfect representation of the album, with an almost airy verse coupled with a heavy but catchy chorus. The off-kilter middle-8 is something we also aspire to, to give songs a fresh feel. Each instrument shines through at different points and that is hugely important in our songwriting, making sure each member gets a chance to shine and make the song theirs.
