Anthrax have released a new single and video for ‘Everybody’s Got A Plan’, taken from their long-awaited twelfth studio album Cursum Perficio, out 18th September via Nuclear Blast Records.
The video was mostly filmed on 7th July in Lisbon, Portugal, where the New York thrash titans, Scott Ian, Charlie Benante, Frank Bello, Joey Belladonna and Jonathan Donais, were opening for Iron Maiden. It splices live footage and backstage fun with cutaways to classic black and white boxing footage, nodding to the song’s central line: “Everybody’s got a plan, that’s until they get punched in the face.”
“‘Everybody’s Got A Plan’ has always been one of my favorite songs on Cursum Perficio,” says Benante. “The video basically shows the band on and off stage in a montage that kinda matches the velocity of the song.”
“We wanted to capture us having fun on tour, and what better way to do that?” adds Ian. “That was a plan that didn’t end up with a punch in the face!”
The single follows earlier cuts ‘It’s For The Kids’ and ‘The Edge Of Perfection’. Cursum Perficio marks the band’s first record in ten years, since 2016’s For All Kings, which debuted in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200. The Latin title translates as “my journey has come to an end,” a fitting phrase for such a complete body of work.
The band began recording in earnest in 2022 at Dave Grohl’s Studio 606 in Los Angeles, mining their history with reverence while broadening the scope of their signature sound. Produced by Jay Ruston and Anthrax, the result lands as angry, aggressive and alive as their most celebrated work, a pummelling milestone in a 45-year career.
Ten years is a long wait, but on this evidence we reckon it has been worth it.
