Hellhounds On the Zac Shulze Gang’s Trail

Robert Johnson‘s classic ‘Hellhounds On My Trail’ has been covered by British trio The Zac Schulze Gang, their first new recording since 2025 debut album Straight To It. It is set to feature on their sophomore long-player, due on Ruf Records in February 2027.

The single already has the accolade of winning Classic Rock’s Tracks of the Week, with the band adapting late blues guitarist Tony Dowler‘s fiery reimagining of the track for their own rendition.

“We were first introduced to the song when our friend Petra Burns asked us to perform it at the Rory Gallagher Festival in Holland,” revealed Zac Schulze. “Every time we perform it, it evolves. We improvise and discover something new. The recorded version is our best attempt to capture that live energy while paying tribute to Tony Dowler, who wrote such a brilliant song. It really sums up where we are as a band right now.”

Recorded live with long-time producer Ian Sadler, the single is out now, with the video below.

Loud, brash and raising hell unapologetically, play it low or full and it won’t be the heat making you sweat but the intensity of The Zac Schulze Gang‘s take on ‘Hellhounds On My Trail’. If ever a trio sounded like they had done a deal at the crossroads, it is this one.

With ‘Hellhounds On My Trail’, The Zac Schulze Gang take another thrilling leap forward, pushing their momentum onto a bigger international stage. In autumn 2026 the band tour North America, joining Samantha Fish and Tab Benoit and introducing US audiences to one of the UK’s most compelling new rock exports.

They also tour the UK in November 2026, then again in February and March 2027, where they will play their biggest London show to date at Islington Assembly Hall on 27th February.
