“‘Fading Away’ is perhaps one of the most intense songs on the album,” said Girish Pradhan, talking about the new Girish And The Chronicles single taken from their album Disintegrate, out later this month via Frontiers Music.
“If our very first release, ‘Angel’, were a movie built around the message ‘I don’t wanna fade away’, then this song would be its darkest chapter. A point in the story where the fight to hold on meets the feeling of being left behind by a world that has already moved on,” he continued.
“Another wasted sunset, my life flashes in front of my eyes… A time-lapse leading to my grave. But the world has already moved on… And I’ve been too blind to see… I don’t know whether it cares or not… But I know I feel distant to it. With ‘Fading Away’, we hope to reach those who have felt this way, reminding them that even in their darkest moments, they are not alone.”
Girish And The Chronicles have released other singles from the new album prior to ‘Fading Away’, and about the most recent, ‘A New Spark’, Pradhan said: “It was a small idea that I had recorded back in 2019 during the Rock The Highway era, and now, it has finally found its home in our new album. I think this is the highlight of the album for all of us.
“There are times in life when we feel stuck, surrounded by negativity, and desperate for new beginnings. ‘A New Spark’ is a song about the search for that spark, an inspiration, which helps us shed the darkness, and gather strength and courage to explore new possibilities in life. There is a whole other world out there.”
Before that came the title track, with the band collectively commenting: “Disintegrate is about things falling apart, whether it’s relationships, dreams, or just life in general, and trying to keep going when they do. We don’t want to talk too much about what the songs are all about. We’d rather let everyone take their own meaning from them.
“As the title track, ‘Disintegrate’ sits at the heart of the album and offers a glimpse into a different side of Girish And The Chronicles.”
“Lyrically, ‘Generation Coward’ is an unflinching reflection on fear, conformity, hypocrisy, and the silence that often surrounds human suffering in today’s world,” said the band of this earlier single, continuing: “In an age where tragedy unfolds in real time and outrage can be reduced to a passing moment on a screen, the song challenges listeners to question blind obedience, empty virtue, and our growing desensitisation to injustice.”
One of India’s best-kept hard rock secrets, Girish And The Chronicles are becoming an international force, fuelled by extensive European touring and a widely acclaimed appearance on the hit American television show America’s Got Talent.
Aside from vocalist and rhythm guitarist Girish Pradhan, Yogesh Pradhan handles bass, keyboards and production, Suraz Sun lead guitar and Nagen Nags drums.
“With this album, we just wanted to play around with the sound a bit. It’s heavier, groovier and darker in places, with some alternative elements coming through, but it still feels like GATC. We didn’t want to overthink it. We just went with what sounded good,” said the band regarding Disintegrate.
“There are definitely some different sides of us on this record, both musically and lyrically, and we just want our old and new fans to hear it for themselves.”
Disintegrate features the tracks ‘Disintegrate’, ‘Fading Away’, ‘Mindhole’, ‘Ricochet Of Hate’, ‘A New Spark’, ‘Take Me Home’, ‘Generation Coward’, ‘Against Yourself’, ‘You’ and ‘KAAL’.
Girish And The Chronicles will be supporting Guns N’ Roses on 14 November in Bangalore, India, and commented: “Supporting GNR for the third time is a surreal feeling, considering how small we started and how far we’ve come as a band. It used to be a daydream that nobody would dare to dream, especially in a relatively hidden Himalayan state like Sikkim. This is literally us living our dreams!”
