Luxurious arrangements, velveteen layers of keyboards and saxophone, harmonies the like of which an AI-produced boyband couldn’t fake, and infectious melodies that stay with you long after the music stops: that’s the not-so-guilty pleasure to be found on Boys From Heaven’s The Wanderer album, released earlier this year through Frontiers Music.
Out now is the single ‘Hotline’ taken from it, along with an official video.
“‘Hotline’ was such a fun track to write,” said frontman Chris Catton. “It was originally an instrumental that our keyboard player Mads Noye brought to the rehearsal room; the only vocal idea he had was the word ‘hotline’ in the chorus.
“The song was such a blast to record, especially for Mads Schaumann because, when we were recording the drums, he got to play some of the tom hits in the intro, and I’m not sure I’ve seen someone that excited in a long time. It’s one of the few tracks on the album with positive vibes (as opposed to the sadder and more serious numbers), so that’s a nice change for us, too.”
Commenting on The Wanderer collectively, the Danish AOR band said: “Recording the last record ourselves and having Erik Mårtensson take care of mixing and mastering was a winning combination, so we had no doubt that we wanted to do the same thing with The Wanderer.
“With the new album we’ve leaned even harder into that 1980s synthesiser-driven power rock sound, and our fans can definitely look forward to an album which is high-energy right from when the first chord is struck, all the way to when the last note has rung out.”
