The Brutal Divine is coming your way courtesy of hard rock veterans Spread Eagle on 12th June through Frontiers Music Srl. Ahead of that comes a series of singles, with a UK tour planned for September.
The latest single ought to be worth checking out for its title alone. It’s ‘Flat Earth Vultures’, and the band said of it: “If there ever was a guitar riff that defines what street metal is, we’d say it’s ‘Flat Earth Vultures’. Combined with an interesting lyrical observation on how the rich are making clowns of the rest of us, the track is an instant Spread Eagle classic.”
Fronted by Ray West on vocals, alongside guitarist Gianmaria ‘Jommy’ Puledda, Rik De Luca on drums and Rob De Luca on bass and vocals (who also produced the record), Spread Eagle blend classic hard rock roots with a darker, heavier edge. The Brutal Divine will be the band’s fourth studio album, and they describe it as “an emotionally and musically heavy body of songs showcasing a unique command of power, dynamics and melody. We have harnessed the energy of years of non-stop touring and turned it into a metal/punk thrill ride of an album.”
“Lyrically, The Brutal Divine challenges us to question our views and ask if we’re truly as free thinking as we may believe. Once that question is posed, the album progresses towards uplifting messages of hope and community,” they continued.
Tracks featured on The Brutal Divine are ‘Flat Earth Vultures’, ‘Street Noise’, ‘Gunflower’, ‘Jail Rat’, ‘Forbidden Local Honey’, ‘Pushed To The Limit’, ‘Ant Farm’, ‘Scars In Our Eyes (City Kids)’, ‘Inside A Shrunken Head’ and ‘Makebeliever’.
‘Flat Earth Vultures’ is the second single taken from the album. The band commented on the first that: “‘Street Noise’ is an obvious choice to kick off The Brutal Divine. It sets the aggressive tone of the album and hints at what’s to come. On this song, Ray West does a great job channelling the energy of our day-to-day dealings in NYC.”
